Swindler & Swindler
Black ink engraving of a pine cone, isolated on white, viewed from a three-quarter angle.

Scale upon scale, hatched

A pine cone, viewed from a slight elevation — apex tight and upright, base scales wide and open, each one drawn individually with a faceted tip and a hatched body. The shading follows the recesses between scales, deepening where the form turns inward. Line weight shifts from a firm outer contour to fine internal strokes, carrying the full volume without any fill or tone. On bare white, the density at the base reads as genuine weight.
