Significant figures — frame
One in an ongoing monthly series published in Chemistry World, the Royal Society of Chemistry's member magazine. Each frame surrounds a portrait of a chemist — often overlooked or misattributed — and integrates elements specific to their scientific life. This illustration departs from the series' typical practice: no molecular structures or chemical formulas are embedded within the wreath. Instead, the ornament remains heraldic and botanical, the blank ribbon banner a deliberate absence. The portrait source is photographic rather than drawn, held within the engraved shield as a document. Black and white throughout, executed in fine line and crosshatching.
